BRIDGING COURSE TO NTA LEVEL 4 IN JOURNALISM

OBJECTIVE OF THE PROGRAMM

This is a three month program.

The general objective of this program is to train Ordinary level secondary school leavers who do not possess the required passes to join Basic Technician Certificate in Journalism. Specifically, this bridging program intends to equip them with a base competence to enable them to join a Basic Technician Certificate in Journalism program.

BASIC TECHNICIAN CERTIFICATE IN JOURNALISM (NTA LEVEL 4)

Aim
The aim of the Basic Technician Certificate in Journalism course is to equip the candidates with requisite knowledge and skills that will enable them to perform mostly routine tasks in the media industry.

Objectives
The main objective of the Basic Technician Certificate in Journalism is: To inculcate appropriate generic competencies in the candidates to enable them to obtain a qualification award at NTA level 4.

Minimum Entry Requirements
The program targets applicants who have completed form IV with at least four passes including English language OR applicants with relevant NVA3 qualifications but should also posses at least form four education qualification OR applicants with Bridging Course to NTA level 4 in Journalism.

TECHNICIAN CERTIFICATE IN JOURNALISM (NTA LEVEL 5)

Aim
The aim of the Technician Certificate in Journalism course is to equip the candidates with requisite knowledge and skills that will enable them to perform mostly operational duties and some non-routine tasks in the media industry.

Objectives
The main objective of the Technician Certificate in Journalism is: To develop capability for the learners to apply generic competencies that will enable them to gather and produce materials for print and electronic media using camera, TV and radio equipment

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENT
The program targets applicants who have completed form VI with at least one principal pass in relevant subjects OR applicants with NTA level 4 in Journalism OR relevant NVA3 qualifications, but should also posses at least form four education qualifications.

ORDINARY DIPLOMA IN JOURNALISM, (NTA LEVEL 6)

Aim
The aim of the Diploma Course is to equip the candidates with requisite knowledge and skills that will enable them to perform semi-managerial and non-routine tasks in the media industry.

Objectives
The main objective of Diploma Course in Journalism is: To develop capability for the learners to apply generic competencies in assisting in managing news rooms and studios, write and analyze issues, and edit media material for both print and electronic media.

Eligibility
All learners with NTA 5 in Journalism qualification that is obtained after having completed form VI and pursued a one year journalism course or having completed form IV and pursued NTA 4 and 5 in journalism are eligible for admission into level 6 training program.
